Ingredients:
- 1 x 2 lb. cooked ham (1kg)
- butter
- 1/4 cup ginger beer (50ml)
- 1/4 cup orange marmalade (50ml)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (5ml)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (5ml)
- 1/2 tsp each dried thyme and ground allspice (2ml each)
Preheat oven to 350 F/180
C. For the children’s portion, cut 4 oz/100 g ham steaks per child from
the whole ham. Set aside. Place remaining whole ham, or adult’s portion,
on a rack in a small baking pan.
Prepare each glaze by whisking the ingredients together in individual
small bowls. Brush the adult’s glaze all over their ham. Place in oven and
bake for 30 minutes, basting occasionally with pan juices, until ham is
heated through.
During the last 10 minutes of baking, prepare the children’s ham. Heat a
nonstick skillet over medium. Add 1 tsp/5 mL butter to the pan and sauté
the ham steaks for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until browned. Remove
the ham from the skillet and cut into strips. Add the children’s glaze to
the pan. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, and simmer until slightly
thickened, about 2 minutes. Pour the sauce into a serving bowl for dipping
with strips. Slice adult’s ham and serve.
Tip: Serve this ham with a simple green salad or with small fresh fruit
kebabs. Try a combo of strawberry, mango and honeydew melon or pineapple.
